Keeping employees clam during a disaster is one of the hardest things to do. When a disaster strikes, emergency response personnel and healthcare workers are the individuals, the general public usually turns to for help. During times of crisis, healthcare workers and emergency response personnel should be able to react to an incident calmly, efficiently and effectively. Emergency Preparedness training teaches you healthcare staff the essential tools they need to handle a variety of disasters that can occur; biological and natural disasters.
OSHA's Position On Emergency Preparedness Training
OSHA and other federal and state agencies have always been aware of the need for standardized emergency procedures for any work, educational or medical facility. Just about all of us have, at one time or another, participated in mandatory fire drills, for example. During the Cold War, the focus turned towards the threat of nuclear disasters. However, in more recent times, other types of emergency concerns have presented themselves. These concerns revolve around the threat to our homeland security through terrorist acts. Because of the inherent difficulty of maintaining order during a crisis situation, OSHA seeks to maintain safety by establishing mandatory regulations and suggestion guidelines. The training and drill repetition of the established disaster action plans are designed to allow emergency response teams, management personnel and employees to conduct their planned courses of action in the most calm and effective manner possible. The topics of our DVD training programs include:
- The Creation of an Emergency Action Plan (OSHA 1910.138(a))
- Lessons Learned From the Terrorist Attacks on September 11th, 2001.
- Mandatory Port Security National Security (Maritime Transportation Act of 2002)
- Transit Security Terrorist Emergencies
- Facility Emergency Response to include chemical and biological weapons.
- Emergency Evacuation (Employer Responsibilities)
- Other Emergency Preparedness topics.
